Unpopular opinion here, the most fun we had in Miami was not on the beach. Miami Beach is gorgeous, but the atmosphere is a little party-centric.
Sure, Justin and I like to drink, but when we were in Miami, spending the day away from our kiddos, the party scene was not our scene.
We wanted a more quiet place with good food and drinks where we could enjoy each others company. We found it in Wynwood.
Wynwood, around Miami’s metro design district, had everything we were looking for. Here are a few of our favorite things.
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink
A travel blog I follow briefly mentioned Michael’s Genuine in one of her posts so I decided to check out the menu. I immediately saw oysters on the raw on the menu and made a reservation. Like the great Jimmy Buffett would say, Give me oysters and beer for dinner every day of the year and I’ll feel fine.
The oysters did not disappoint. Neither did the gin & tonic. We also enjoyed a delicious pork belly and split a kale pizza.
The food was fresh and delicious and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area!
Wynwood Brewing Company
It’s quickly become a tradition of ours to find a local brewery wherever we go. While in Miami, we popped into the Wynwood Brewing Company.
The tap room was quaint and quiet. They had shelves full of board games and communal tables. I quite enjoyed the La Rubia, which is the lightest beer they brew. It was nice and crisp and reminded me of a slightly-more-bitter Cloud Chaser from Crooked Can Brewery.
Wynwood Walls
Justin and I enjoyed a beer and then took a stroll around the area. Every building in the Wynwood area is covered in graffiti. High-quality stunning graffiti murals.
The Wynwood Walls exhibit is an outdoor walk-through of stunning art. Justin and I loved everything we saw, taking it all in.
If you’re spending a few nights in Miami, or only one quiet day, definitely make the trip up into the city to spend some time in Wynwood
